Aviation passenger screening has been used worldwide to mitigate the translocation risk of SARS-CoV-2. We present a model that evaluates factors in screening strategies used in air travel and assess their relative sensitivity and importance in identifying infectious passengers. We use adapted Monte Carlo simulations to produce hypothetical disease timelines for the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 for travelling passengers. Screening strategy factors assessed include having one or two RT-PCR and/or antigen tests prior to departure and/or post-arrival, and quarantine length and compliance upon arrival. One or more post-arrival tests and high quarantine compliance were the most important factors in reducing pathogen translocation. Screening that combines quarantine and post-arrival testing can shorten the length of quarantine for travelers, and variability and mean testing sensitivity in post-arrival RT-PCR and antigen tests decrease and increase with the greater time between the first and second post-arrival test, respectively. This study provides insight into the role various screening strategy factors have in preventing the translocation of infectious diseases and a flexible framework adaptable to other existing or emerging diseases. Such findings may help in public health policy and decision-making in present and future evidence-based practices for passenger screening and pandemic preparedness.

Introduction
Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) makes recommendations on the use of human vaccines. Provinces and territories subsequently use the advice to make decisions on public funding and program implementation. Traditionally, NACI reviewed vaccine characteristics and burden of illness.
With its recent expanded mandate, NACI now considers cost-effectiveness via economic evaluations, among other decision determinants. As such, new processes and guidelines were needed to formalize the incorporation of economic evidence into federal vaccine decision-making.
MethodsTwo task groups were convened respectively to develop NACI’s “Economic Process” and “Guidelines for the Economic Evaluation of Vaccination Programs in Canada”. The groups conducted environmental scans to inform their work, as well as engaged with government partners, decision-makers, academics, national immunization technical advisory groups from other countries, health technology assessment agencies, industry, patient groups, among others.
ResultsThe Economic Process outlines when and how NACI incorporates economic evidence for vaccine recommendation. For instance, it describes how policy questions are prioritized given institutional capacity constraints for generating economic evidence. It also describes how policy questions are assessed to determine the appropriate type of economic evidence required (i.e., systematic review, economic evaluation, multi-model comparison of external models).
The Economic Guidelines provide recommendations in 15 chapters on how to conduct economic evaluations (i.e., from defining the decision problem to reporting). Unlike other health technologies, vaccines have the potential to affect both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals. Hence, the Guidelines consider population-level impacts such as externalities (e.g., herd immunity, age-shifting of disease) and spillover effects. They also discuss equity considerations and non-health impacts of vaccines such as to productivity, consumption and education.
ConclusionsThe Economic Process and Economic Guidelines promote the generation and use of credible and standardized economic evidence. They advocate for transparency, allowing evidence to be used across jurisdictions beyond Canada. Next steps include documentation of user feedback, incorporation of Indigenous considerations, and formal evaluations.

Summary
Emotion is vital part of our routine communication. The facial feedback hypothesis is the theory of how internal emotion is modulated by the external facial movements used to express it. Botulinum toxin injection is the most common aesthetic procedure in the United States. It has been studied extensively for its cosmetic use in wrinkle reduction, but its secondary psychological effects have only been elucidated gradually over the last two decades. Although neurotoxin is considered safe and effective, it may also potentially affect our facial expressions and communications. Similar to neurotoxin, another example that affects our social interactions is the facial mask, after the COVID-19 pandemic. In this chapter, we hereby discuss how neurotoxin affects our emotions and nonverbal communications.

Developing tissues have intricate, three-dimensional (3D) organizations of cells and extracellular matrix (ECM) that provide the framework necessary to meet morphogenic and necessary demands. Migrating cells, in vivo, are exposed to numerous conflicting signals: chemokines, ECM, growth factors, and physical forces. While most of these have been studied individually in vivo or in vitro, our understanding of how cells integrate these various signals is lacking. We previously developed a novel self-organizing cellularized collagen hydrogel model that is adaptable, tunable, reproducible, and capable of mimicking the multitude of stimuli that cells experience. Our model produced self-assembled toroids of cells that were formed by 24 h. Data we present here show toroids initially form as early as 3 h after seeding. Additionally, toroids formed when cells were seeded on various collagen subtypes and were sensitive to the composition of the hydrogel. Moreover, we found differences in remodeling in toroid gels compared to gels with cells embedded in them using both a collagen binding peptide and rheology. Using scanning electron microscopy, we observed toroids forming a crater-like structure compared to whole gel contractions in mixed in gels. Finally, when multiple cells were mixed prior to seeding, heterogeneous toroids formed with some containing clusters of cells.

Aim:
Optimal preoperative therapy regimen in the treatment of resectable retroperitoneal sarcoma (RPS) remains unclear. This study compares the impact of preoperative radiation, chemoradiation and chemotherapy on overall survival (OS) in RPS patients.
Materials and Methods:The National Cancer Database (NCDB) was queried for patients with non-metastatic, resectable RPS (2006–15). The primary endpoint was OS, evaluated by Kaplan–Meier method, log-rank test, Cox multivariable analysis and propensity score matching.
Results:A total of 1,253 patients met the inclusion criteria, with 210 patients (17%) receiving chemoradiation, 850 patients (68%) receiving radiation and 193 patients (15%) receiving chemotherapy. On Cox multivariable analysis, when compared to preoperative chemoradiation, preoperative radiation was not associated with improved OS (hazards ratio [HR] 0·98, 95% CI 0·76–1·25, p = 0·84), while preoperative chemotherapy was associated with worse OS (HR 1·64, 95% CI 1·24–2·18, p < 0·001). Similar findings were observed in 199 and 128 matched pairs for preoperative radiation and chemotherapy, respectively, when compared to preoperative chemoradiation.
Findings:Our study suggested an OS benefit in using preoperative chemoradiation compared to chemotherapy alone, but OS outcomes were comparable between preoperative chemoradiation and radiation alone.

As lidar becomes a regular part of surveying, ground-based platforms (handheld, mobile, and terrestrial lidar) and airborne platforms (piloted aircraft) are being joined by unpiloted aerial vehicle (UAV)–acquired lidar. We present a method for leveraging UAV-acquired lidar data with data collected using different lidar platforms (terrestrial and piloted aircraft), at a range of resolutions (1 to +1,000 points per m2) and geographic scales. We use these instruments to document a dry-masonry stone wall enclosing a religious precinct within the royal center at Kealakekua, Kona District, Hawai'i Island. Prior to European contact in AD 1779, Kealakekua was the center of the island-wide polity during the annual Makahiki festival. Results of this study suggest that when the wall was constructed around AD 1640, it was the largest structure ever built on the island of Hawai'i as well as a strong material expression of the power of state religion and the Makahiki rituals.

Summary
The expression ‘Wagner's Ninth’ has become commonplace in the reception history of Beethoven's choral symphony. Nicholas Cook devotes an entire section of his Beethoven: Symphony no. 9 to this concept. A contemporary indication of the regard in which Wagner's interpretation was held by performers during much of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries is provided by Richard Strauss's handwritten remark at the head of his personal copy of the Eulenburg edition of the score: ‘Alles Wesentliche über diese Symphonie ist von Rich. Wagner’ [Everything significant on this symphony comes from Richard Wagner].
The main textual evidence for the concept of ‘Wagner's Ninth’ is Wagner's essay of 1873, Zum Vortrag der neunten Symphonie Beethovens [The Rendering of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony], which offers detailed advice on the issues facing performers of the work. Wagner's approach involves an attempt to discern the composer's intentions in order to arrive at a musical interpretation that is not only accurate, but faithful to the spirit that inspired the score. Less well known, however, is the programmatic description Wagner produced in 1846 for the benefit of audiences in Dresden hearing the work for the first time. The essay was printed as a programme note without a title; we will refer to it as the Programm. This essay uses quotations from Goethe's Faust in an attempt to provide verbal illustrations of Beethoven's music and reveals the foundations on which ‘Wagner's Ninth’ – his interpretation of Beethoven's work – was built.
It is surprising that the Programm has not received detailed attention. Although there are references to it in many important secondary texts, notably Kropfinger's Wagner and Beethoven, Grey's Wagner's Musical Prose and Dahlhaus's The Idea of Absolute Music, full critical examination of the text itself has been cursory. Grey even describes the Programm as ‘relatively obscure’. This lack of critical interest presumably results from contemporary scholarship's rejection of poetic association as an acceptable methodology for the elucidation of musical works.

Scanning transmission electron microscope (STEM) through-focus imaging (TFI) has been used to determine the three-dimensional atomic structure of Bi segregation-induced brittle Cu grain boundaries (GBs). With TFI, it is possible to observe single Bi atom distributions along Cu [001] twist GBs using an aberration-corrected STEM operating at 200 kV. The depth resolution is ~5 nm. Specimens with GBs intentionally inclined with respect to the microscope’s optic axis were used to investigate Bi segregant atom distributions along and through the Cu GB. It was found that Bi atoms exist at most once per Cu unit cell along the GB, meaning that no continuous GB film is present. Therefore, the reduced fracture toughness of this particular Bi-doped Cu boundary would not be caused by fracture of Bi–Bi bonds.

Summary
Introduction
For some considerable time now, legislatures across the Western world have sought to respond to the proliferation of hate crimes by increasing the punishments of offenders. The use of penalty enhancements seems intuitive given the severity of harms caused by hate-motivated offences (Iganski, 2008; Smith et al, 2012). The criminalisation of hate also promotes an important symbolic message to society that hostilities demonstrated towards racial, religious, sexual orientation, disability and transgender groups (among others) are wholly unacceptable (Iganski, 1999). Yet while a punitive approach to tackling hate offenders has its merits, there are several limitations to this approach that require attention. First, the law does little to support the healing of hate victims – beyond perhaps appeasing a visceral desire for an offender to receive his ‘just deserts’ (Dixon and Gadd, 2006). Furthermore, it can be argued that the punishment and labelling of offenders as ‘hate offenders’ does little to challenge individuals’ hate-motivated behaviours (Jacobs and Potter, 1998; Dixon and Gadd, 2006). In fact, some academics have gone so far as to suggest that hate crime laws may actually antagonise (would-be) offenders who see certain groups as receiving unequal protection from the state (Jacobs and Potter, 1998).
The lack of victim support and offender edification offered by retributive hate crime laws suggests that a new or additional approach is needed when tackling hate-motivated offences (Burney, 2003: 36; Perry, 2003: 44). With this in mind, a growing number of academics have begun to explore the effectiveness of using a restorative approach to tackling the phenomenon (see, Shenk, 2001; Umbreit et al, 2002; Gavrielides, 2007; Walters and Hoyle, 2010; 2012). This chapter adds to the small but growing knowledge base on restorative justice (RJ) for hate crime by focusing on the potential benefits that restorative practices may yield in relation to transforming the behaviours of hate crime offenders. Drawing on empirical research undertaken for the author's doctorate, the chapter explores the ways in which restorative practices have been used to challenge effectively and modify the hate-motivated behaviours of offenders, while simultaneously protecting participants against re-victimisation (Walters, 2012a).
